Scientific and Innovative Topics by Popular Ukrainian Socio-political Information Resources
Abstract
Research Methodology. The article’s research used the methods of content analysis (determination of the ratio of the amount of scientific materials to the total number of materials, the ratio of the genres of materials about innovations and coverage of the actual directions of innovation activity), comparative analysis (establishing differences between the selected information resources regarding the peculiarities of submission and the editorial level of the materials), induction (synthesis and interpretation of results) and generalization (systematization of the obtained data).
Results. The research revealed certain patterns of coverage of scientific and innovative topics by popular Ukrainian socio-political resources, indicating the effectiveness of media communication as one of the models of innovations presentation in the modern information space of Ukraine. In particular, content analysis showed rather low results of quantitative reporting of journalistic materials on science and innovation relative to the total number of materials of each of the selected resources. The obtained data reveals the attraction of media texts about innovation to sensationalism and reduction of the volume of materials (mostly the materials do dot consist such key points as the name of the author of innovation, explanation of its usefulness for society, etc.). The thematic coverage of the perspective directions of innovation activity is also uneven (in particular, the number of ICT news is in 89 times higher than the number of publications about innovations in the agro-industrial complex). Also, the coverage of innovative activity of Ukrainians and their scientific achievements is rather insignificant, which indicates the lack of attention of the socio-political media to science in Ukraine.
Novelty. Within the article there were explored the features of presentation of scientific achievements and innovations by popular Ukrainian socio-political media as one of the important communication models of innovations presentation.
The practical significance. The research results can be used in research of the science popularization in Ukraine and worldwide, as well as during the development of journalists professional programs on the coverage of the realities of science and innovation.
