Portrait Essay: Features of Teaching in Higher Education
Abstract
Research methodology. The article uses a set of research methods, because the problem considered in it is relevant. Methods of analysis and typology help to highlight genre features of portrait essays. Methods of synthesis and generalization give an opportunity to investigate typical student mistakes in portrait essays. The article also uses a method of modeling. It will help to intensify creative activity and creative thinking of future journalists.
Results. The article investigates the drawbacks of portrait essays, written by students, which are determined by the specifics of this genre. This research revealed the following main disadvantages of student essays: lack of emotionality, monotony of author's emotions, poverty of stylistic means, excessive capture by figurative and expressive means, formal portraiture descriptions, lack of vivid details.
Novelty. The article presents new creative forms of presentation of educational material. For example, the article offers a detailed plan for analyzing the genre of portrait sketches. Students should take samples of portrait essays from the press and analyze them according to the plan with the help of a teacher. In addition, the research offers creative exercises. Students' performance of these exercises will help to avoid shortcomings in their portrait essays. These exercises are caused by the typical mistakes that students face when they write portrait essays. Creative tasks will help students develop creative thinking and skills that are essential for writing a portrait essay.
The practical significance. As a result of the analysis of theoretical sources and pedagogical experience, the author concludes that the portrait essay is one of the most difficult for mastering by future journalists of genre forms. Specific features of this genre of journalism cause a number of disadvantages in the works of journalist students. In order to prevent these shortcomings, the teacher should apply the modern didactic formats, which we consider one of the most promising ways of preparing future media professionals for successful professional activities. The results of the study are useful for the work of journalists-practitioners. The materials of the article can also be used by student-journalists and lecturers in the preparation of lectures and practical classes on various subjects, for example, «Artistic-journalistic genres». The theoretical positions and conclusions of the presented work are perspective for further scientific researches on related subjects.
