Publishing Standards and Design Solution of Ukrainian Abecedary

Abstract

Research Methodology. During the study, the following methods were used: descriptive method to characterize the modern variants of design solution of typography of Ukrainian abecedary; methods of analysis, synthesis, generalization to define advantages and disadvantages in the abecedary typography.

Results. The article analyzes variants of publishing embodiment of Ukrainian abecedary. It is one of the first child’s books. As usual, an abecedary is produced in the book format with illustrative and textual additions, but other variants of implementation are possible too: in the form of cards, interactive posters, toy blocks, jigsaw puzzles, stencils, pictures to colour, mobile games, etc. Nearly the latest novelties on the publishing market are issues, created by means of AR technologies, or augmented reality technologies. Abecedaries have taken their place on the Ukrainian market of printed output, and there are significant achievements in the production of this type of editions for children, but editorial and publishing treatment, design solution in particular, needs the constant attention of specialists.

Novelty. On the ground of analysis of abecedaries of Ukrainian publishing companies as «A-ba-ba-ha-la-ma-ha», «Ailes», «Vydavnytstvo Staroho Leva», «Krystal-Buks», «Manho», «Osnovy», «Pehas», «Pero», «Ranok», «Talant», «Shkola», «Iunisoft», «Vivat», etc., which were issued in recent years, the particularities of design solution of this type of editions for children with an accent on their advantages and disadvantages were revealed.

The practical significance. Research results can be used in editorial and publishing work at children publications.
