Television News: Features of the Use of Communication Technologies as Means of Social Engineering during the Anti-Terrorist Operation 2014 in Ukraine
Abstract
Research methodology. To realize the goal, the following research methods were applied: the hypothetical-deductive method and the method of quantitative-qualitative analysis.
Results. We have selected 6 news programs of political direction on 6 rating (according to GFK Ukraine from 02/16/2014) TV channels of Ukraine. Selected were 108 issues of the following news programs (18 issues of each program): «Details» (TRK «Inter»), «TSN» (TRK «Studio 1+1»); Window (STB), Facts (ISTV); «Reporter» («Novyy» TV and Radio Company); Events (TRK Ukraine). While viewing the news programs listed, we recorded complexes (communication technologies) that were used as means of social and communication technologies on television. Summarizing the peculiarities of the use of communication technologies as a means of social engineering in the aforementioned television news broadcasts in the period from 02/28/14 to 06/27/14, we can state that there are several such features: social processes that took place during that period; the audience of the TV news programs «Detail», «TSN» and «Window-news» reacted quite actively to the coverage of information of a political nature or relevant to political processes; the quality of the audience’s response to political information indicates a sufficiently high level of readiness of Ukrainian viewers to respond adequately to attempts to capture Ukraine’s territories and impose their own style of political process.
Novelty. The features of the use of communication technologies as a means of social engineering during the 2014 anti-terrorist operation in Ukraine were identified for the first time.
Practical importance. The results of the study can be used to qualitatively train both television journalists who work in the studio during the broadcast, and for those journalists who are directly in the war zone, at the forefront, in the hot spot.
Key words: communication technologies, social engineering, television news, anti-terrorist operation.
