Three Years of Student Information TV and Radio Programme «Shevchenko Uiversity News» on the Air
Abstract
Research methodology. The place and role of student tv and radio broadcasting in Ukrainian media system and in the educational process of domestic non-governmental organizations involved systems, descriptive and analytical, and comparative approaches and content analysis.
Results. The article covers various aspects of the organization and activities of student television and radio broadcasting in a higher education institution. The experience of «Shevchenko University News» production, a television and radio programme that highlights current events at the Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University for three consecutive years on the Campus Radio Ukraine / Student-TV multimedia platform is useful for comprehension and generalization.
At the present stage, it’s reasonable to assert that this popular type of broadcasting also forms a type of mass communication, the target audience of which is mainly students and teachers, as well as entrants who consider a certain university as a prospective educational institution. The structure of this type of broadcasting is associated with youth broadcasting, because age features of the audience are similar, but the article emphasizes the differences in organization and typology. Whereas student television broadcasting is backed by students creating audio and visual content, as a rule, regarding their university, studies, leisure, therefore, students are both their topic and audience, the youth television broadcast covers not only student issues but also actual problems that may be of interest to young people. These events do not relate directly to student life, but are important for young people. At the same time, the article specifies that not all student media cover only niche topics. An overview of the programmes of similar media projects of other Ukrainian higher education institutions, where the university media centres operate, shows a wide thematic spectrum of events presented by students in their television and radio programs. This points to the desire to try to apply the theory that students get in classrooms in practice within their major classes.
Novelty. The article considers the educational television and radio project, the production of which is close to modern media technologies, classes, independent work with students, which can be taken into account during the preparation of curricula and programs in many Ukrainian universities.
Practical significance. The results of the research can be used in specific Ukrainian NGOs to prepare similar TV and radio projects.
Key words: student broadcasting, format of television and radio programs, Shevchenko university news, film and reporter groups, media platform.
